The beginning of this month was marked by the news that a remake of Lollipop Chainsaw - a crazy Japanese slasher about a cheerleader with a chainsaw - is in the works. The announcement of the remake immediately sowed seeds of fear in the hearts of fans of the original - they did not like some details about the upcoming version. Project producer, Yoshimi Yasuda, tried to dispel the main feelings.
To begin with, let's recall what exactly upset the players:
- In the remake, the soundtrack will be changed - if the original game had 16 licensed tracks, then only a few licensed songs have been declared for reissue, and all other compositions will be new.
- The graphics are promised to be made more realistic, despite the fact that earlier Lollipop Chainsaw did not claim realism and was distinguished by an original stylized picture.
- Two famous people - game designers - contributed to the original Goyti Suda and screenwriter James Gunn. They are not working on a remake.
- Some users suggested that the action movie may be subject to strict censorship. Situations when controversial elements of the original disappear from the re-release are not at all rare - take at least the content related to transgenders, which was cut from the versions of GTA V for new generation consoles.
The remake producer Yoshimi Yasuda in his messages commented on some of the fan claims.
- The developers do not plan to make a new game - the remake will be as close to the remaster as possible. The plot of the original source will not change.
- The authors are not going to change the visual style of Lollipop Chainsaw or the design of the main character. Words about realistic graphics referred to more advanced rendering technology that became available on modern platforms.
- The creators of the remake have not yet discussed the issue of censorship with platform holders, so they cannot share news on this account. But they are trying to negotiate with companies in order to make as few changes to the project as possible.
Lollipop Chainsaw remake will start in 2023. The list of platforms is still unknown.
