"What could be worse than prison?" - Author of The Callisto Protocol about creating game history
The father of Dead Space and the author of the upcoming The Callisto Protocol Glen Schofield gave a little interview to Game Informer. His story about the creation of horror is accompanied by new gameplay fragments.
We collected the most interesting from the conversation:
- After leaving Activision, Scofield decided to take a break and often went to the desert to paint. As he was sketching, he thought about the games that could be created. One of them was The Callisto Protocol.
- The game designer let the idea of a new horror take root and thought out its setting gradually.
"Okay, I want to move the action to one of Jupiter's moons. But which one? Then I researched the question and chose Callisto. I was going to use a prison — what could be worse than being in a prison, right?"
- Unlike Dead Space, The Callisto Protocol did not have a ready-made ending at the start of production. Scofield and the team came up with several ideas for the ending - one of which went through several changes before ending up in the final version.
- A similar situation arose at the beginning of history.
- It took a year and a half to complete the story and script for it.
The Callisto Protocol will be released on December 2, 2022 for PC, PlayStation, and Xbox. Previously, the developers shared information about the combat system of the horror, as well as about the gameplay and the main character. In addition, the level of brutality is promised to be significantly increased compared to Dead Space.
