A fan makes a remaster of The Simpsons: Hit & Run with cartoon splash screens
The Simpsons: Hit & Run is a 3D action game from 2003, reminiscent of Grand Theft Auto. A user with the nickname El Gato Del Tejado has started to develop a remaster of the game. Recently he published a video about his ambitious project.
The main feature of this amateur re-release is updated cut-scenes: if in original Hit & Run they were made in 3D, in this remaster the enthusiast redraws them in 2D, following the style of animated series.
According to El Gato Del Tejado, he would like to see how the splash screens would look in a full remake like Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy and SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom - Rehydrated, but he himself is not strong in 3D animation.
According to the author, at first he tried to reproduce the cutscenes using rotoscoping, but this approach worked for the table, but not the characters themselves. The only alternative was to draw clips by hand.
The cutscenes aren't limited to the fan experience - he's also improving the original textures and models. The work must not be easy: El Gato Del Tejado ran into difficulties - for example, Lisa turned into a monster because of a bug.
There is no release date for the amateur re-release of The Simpsons: Hit & Run, as usual.
