Unity rejected a merger offer from AppLovin
The executives of game engine Unity rejected a merger bid for AppLovin. AppLovin is known for its analytics and marketing platforms that allow mobile software developers to embed ads and analyze traffic. It previously offered Unity a takeover for $17.54 billion. If Unity had agreed, it would have had to back out of the $4.4 billion deal with ironSource.
But in a statement, Unity CEO John Riccitiello said: "The board continues to believe that the ironSource transaction is compelling and will deliver an opportunity to generate long-term value." Unity also added that AppLovin's offer would not result in a "Superior Proposal" than that defined in Unity's merger agreement with ironSource. The deal is expected to close in the fourth quarter of this year.
IronSource itself is known for its Install Core shell, used for batch software installations. Unity's interest in ironSource lies in its interest in expanding its stake in mobile advertising with plans to use the company's tools, platforms, technology and talent to create an end-to-end platform that will make it easier for creators to create, publish, launch, monetize and develop live games.
