The head of PlayStation Studios, Hermen Hulst, explained in an interview why Sony is buying shares in FromSoftware.

According to him, the projects of the team of Hidetaka Miyazaki are of interest not only in the video game format, but also as a huge potential for the production of films and TV series.

"You should think of collaborations on the game development side first and foremost, but it’s also not unthinkable with our PlayStation Productions efforts that we explore opportunities."

As a reminder, Sony currently owns 14.09% of FromSoftware, about the same amount owned by the Chinese from Tencent. There is a good chance that one of these giants will soon take over Miyazaki's studio.

Flashback

Sony is actively engaged in the film adaptation of games of its own production. The screens have already released Uncharted, soon to be the premiere of the series based on The Last of Us. In the near future the adaptation of Days Gone and Horizon Zero Dawn is planned, and also there are rumors about the adaptation of Twisted Metal and Metal Gear.

We'll probably hear about work on screen adaptations of Elden Ring and Bloodborne soon.
