There could have been a movie! The producer said that the GTA movie could have starred rapper Eminem, but the Houser Brothers turned down the project
Rumors about a Grand Theft Auto movie appeared many times, but never got beyond talk. However, once the idea almost did not come to fruition. That's what producer Kirk Ewing told us in the latest episode of Bugzy Malone's Grandest Game podcast.
Here's What We Know
Kirk Ewing shared that right after the release of GTA III, which revolutionized the game industry, he had a long talk with Sam Houser - the co-creator of the series and co-founder of Rockstar. At the time, Houser wasn't opposed to an adaptation of his game, and it seemed like the idea would soon come to fruition.
But when a real offer came along, including $5 million to shoot and the agreement of rap star Eminem to play the title role, the developers decided not to shoot. Houser Brothers felt that the movie would have too many frames and restrictions for such a satirical and edgy franchise, like GTA, and nothing worthy of this idea would come out.
That's how the fans of the franchise were left without a screen version of the beloved game, but a series of criminal action from Rockstar Games continues to live and not once set new heights for the game industry. At the moment the sixth part of the game is in development.
