If you were one of those who were happy that Blizzard had mostly abandoned phone number verification, I'm going to have to disappoint you - it looks like it's coming back.

Here's What We Know

The publisher recently announced on their blog that SMS Protect has been re-enabled. That is, whether you have a prepaid mobile phone or not, you will soon need to connect your phone number to your Battle.net account to play Overwatch.

For many this may be a problem, but for even more people the problem may be that the coveted SMS with the code may not come at all! (personal experience). The start of the game was already a little spoiled due to server overload, which made it impossible to play, and on top of that this forced verification was introduced. After a flurry of negativity in the direction of Blizzard, it decided to abandon this method of verification.

Well, Blizzard has changed its mind again. In a blog post updated on November 17, the publisher announced that SMS Protect for Overwatch 2 is coming back.
