The fight between Microsoft and Sony for the Call of Duty franchise has reached amazing forms.

Here's What We Know

While Sony convinces regulators that without Call of Duty, PlayStation consoles will lose appeal for most of their users, Microsoft has suddenly stated that the most popular shooter series has no "significant market power " and "its value is greatly exaggerated." That is, translating to human language, Call of Duty is an ordinary game that is nothing interesting.

As evidence of this, to put it mildly, surprising statement, Microsoft cites the following facts:

  • Call of Duty does not win Best Game titles in various polls;
  • Call of Duty games do not receive high scores on Metacritic;
  • core publications never pay much attention to Call of Duty in their materials;
  • social media users do not discuss Call of Duty as much as some other projects.

According to Microsoft arguments, we see that Call of Duty is the niche game for a small number of players and not the blockbuster, that enjoys huge popularity.

These theses of American giant hardly can be taken seriously, because the regulators are well aware of the sales of the shooter and the number of its fans, even on PlayStation.
