2022 is already coming to an end and Sega decided to tell us what the Sonic Frontiers development plan looks like next year.

Here's What We Know

The company announced that in 2023 the game will receive three major updates. All of them will be free and will contain both small features and new characters or stories. The first update will add an automatic machine gun, photo mode and new test modes. Of course there may be something else, but that's all that's known at the moment.

In the second update there will be a celebration of Sonic's birthday, which, by the way, falls on the 23rd of June, so we should expect an update around then. It will feature more open area challenges and a new Koco to find, which should allow Sonic to further increase his speed or maximum number of rings. As if he wasn't already fast enough.

By far the biggest and most exciting update is the last one, which is likely to be released in the second half of 2023. It will feature a new story and new playable characters to run around as. This will be the first time you can play as Knuckles, Tails, and Amy in the game.
