Google Stadia fans unite in the last days of the service to pay tribute to the platform
We've known since September 2022 that Google's cloud gaming service Stadia would be shutting down on January 18, but now we know the exact time - 23:59 PT. With less than a week left until its "death", fans are uniting to mourn what could have been.
Longtime players of the platform are returning to the Stadia community on Reddit to pay tribute to her. Some share their gaming in time of over a thousand hours they spent in Crayta or Dead by Daylight from Destiny 2. Others thank Stadia for once being their platform of choice for many years. One user wrote the following: "As a dad who doesn't have much time to play games, Stadia has been great for me," adding that "it's so easy to just open the browser and play."
Some fans of the platform are even planning farewell parties. For example, Discord is hosting a "Last Hurrah" event, with 390 registered participants at the time of writing. It looks like the plan is for everyone to group up in their chosen game and have one last good session with the platform on January 17 before it is officially discontinued forever.
Bryant Chappel, who has created hundreds of videos about Stadia on the NERF Gaming News YouTube channel, thanked the platform in a tweet:
The Google Stadia platform will forever join the list of Google projects that did not bring enough money and were closed by their creator.
