Starfield has changed the release date on Steam from 2023 to "soon"
As far as we know now, Starfield is scheduled for release sometime in the first half of 2022. Last fall, Microsoft said that the game would be released shortly after Redfall, and it, in turn, according to leaks, should be released on May 2. That is, Starfield should have been released sometime between May 3 and June 30, but the game was once again postponed and the release date on Steam was changed, which worried some players.
Here's What We Know
Now the official Steam page of the game shows an indefinite "soon" instead of "2023". In general, this does not sound like an improvement, but as PCGamesN noted, it may not be a bad thing.
Steam offers developers a variety of options for setting release dates, from specific fixed dates where the developer knows exactly when they want to release the game, to more general windows like "January 2023", "Q3 2023", or even the whole year. However, the base Steam catalog with default release dates will be the last possible day in those windows, so "January 2023" will actually be January 31, 2023, and only "2023" will be December 31, 2023. The change from "2023" to "soon" may mean that we will see Starfield before the end of this year (but this is not certain).
Perhaps more information will be revealed at the joint Xbox and Bethesda game show, which is scheduled for January 25th.
