Square Enix has released Octopath Traveler 2: Prologue Demo on Steam, which will allow you to explore some of the game's mechanisms, such as Path Actions, as well as play with the combat system, which is "based on the accumulation of actions and the exploitation of enemy weaknesses".

The demo version will allow you to choose one of the game's eight main characters, whose talents range from wrestling to dancing, and play through three hours of their stories. And the good news is that your efforts will not be wasted - you will be able to transfer your progress to the release version when it becomes available.

The time limit is more or less strict than it seems. You get three hours per character, not a total, meaning you can simply restart as a new person when you reach the playthrough limit. On the other hand, the demo will only allow you to carry over one save slot to the full game, so you can't just spend three hours on every available protagonist and import them all.

Octopath Traveler II will be released on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and PC on the 24th of February 2023.
