Cool zombie action, but mediocre game: critics were cautious in their assessment of Dead Island 2. Fans of the genre will probably disagree with them
Dead Island 2 has been in development since at least 2012.
In that time the game went through production hell, changed several developers, changed the concept and survived those detractors who thought the game was the zombie it's all about.
And now the long-awaited Dead Island 2 release will take place on the 21st of April, and even the most rabid optimists probably weren't expecting it anymore.
Here's What We Know
The critics of the leading gaming periodicals have already had a chance to get acquainted with Dambuster Studios' project and expressed their opinion about the game in their reviews.
According to the majority of them, Dead Island 2 game was neither good nor bad. It is a dynamic zombie action with good combat system, excellent graphics, good technical execution and sometimes even funny jokes. The critics noted that Dead Island 2 is best revealed in cooperative mode.
At the same time, Dead Island 2, as it almost always happens with games of such genre, is not distinguished by an exciting story and interesting characters. Of course, both are present in the action, but their importance tends to zero.
The bloody and senseless fights in the ruins of Los Angeles are always in the foreground. Good or bad, everyone will decide for themselves, but the critics' evaluations, at the time of writing, are as follows:
- On Metacritic, the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series version of the game has a score of 75, and on PC it has a score of 74;
- On Opencritic the average score is 74, and 57% of critics recommend the game.
All in all, Dead Island 2 was an average game with no pretensions to being a masterpiece, but the developers from Dambuster Studios deserve a lot of respect, as they were able to bring zombies to life...
