The head of Xbox is confident that Starfield will not repeat the fate of Redfall. Microsoft gives significant support to Bethesda to develop space RPG
After the disappointing release of Bethesda and Arkane Studios' vampire shooter Redfall, gamers were worried whether the hotly anticipated Starfield could suffer the same fate, since it is also being developed by Todd Howard's publisher.
Speaking to Kinda Funny Games yesterday, Microsoft's head of gaming Phil Spencer not only agreed with Redfall's criticism and took some of the blame (as we reported in this piece), but also shared his thoughts on the Starfield release.
Here's What We Know
Phil Spencer is confident that the space RPG will not repeat Redfall's fate, as Microsoft used the capacity of Xbox Advanced Technology Group (ATG) to support Bethesda in the Starfield production process, which he said was not the case with the developers of the vampire shooter.
He attributed the situation to the fact that at the time of the Microsoft and Bethesda merger, Redfall was at a stage of development where it was too late to apply the capabilities of the US corporation. In turn, the development of Starfield was at a much earlier stage, and game designers Bethesda Games Studios received full assistance from Microsoft.
Phil Spencer does not ask us to take his word for it, but urged us to wait for the Starfield release and see the quality of the game.
When We Can Expect It
Starfield will be available on Xbox Series and PC. The game will be available in the Game Pass catalogue on release day.
Remember that the big Starfield Direct presentation will take place on June 11, where viewers will be able to find out more about the game.
