According to VGC, the new Sonic Superstars platformer was developed by Arzest, a studio based in Japan and led by the creator of the original hedgehog, Naoto Ohshima. Oshima, who is considered to be the creator of Sonic and the author of the first games in the franchise, returns to his first series after more than 20 years.

Here's What We Know

In an interview on Saturday, Sonic Teams head Takashi Iizuka said that the company originally intended to work with developer Christian Whitehead, who directed Sonic Mania in 2017, but plans had to be changed. It was after this that Iizuka approached Oshima to lead the development of the next game with his development team.

Iizuka explained that he felt he could trust Oshima's team because of his valuable experience working on the original Sonic games. Oshima is best known as the creator of Sonic's character design, but Iizuka said that few people know that he also created many of the levels for the game.

The game will be released this autumn on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series, Xbox One, Switch and PC.
