Todd Howard, Bethesda's game director, spoke to IGN about the game he was inspired by when creating the long-awaited Starfield.

Here's What We Know

Howard mentioned Red Dead Redemption 2, because the authors of Starfield wanted to create a game that would immerse gamers in their world, which seems to be real and resembles a "Western fantasy", where players can experience adventures both on an exploratory planet and in places where nothing happens. Todd also recalled other Bethesda games: Elder Scrolls and Fallout. They also inspired him during development, but for the creation of certain mechanics. All these games make Howard feel that he is rooted in the reality of the game universe, and everything else seems to disappear. This is exactly the case with Elder Scrolls, Fallout, and RDR 2 (especially the latter), where you get the impression that the game world is really alive, not created by people.

Flashback

Starfield is a role-playing game set in space, where players will go on an epic journey to answer the greatest mystery of mankind. The story begins in 2330. Humanity has moved beyond our solar system, settling on new planets and living as a space people. Starting with a humble position as a space miner, you will join Constellation, the last group of space explorers searching for rare artefacts across the galaxy, and then begin a long exploration of everything possible.

When We Can Expect It

Starfield will be released on September 6 on Xbox Series and PC. The game will also be included in Xbox Game Pass at release.
