Netflix releases first trailer for One Piece series
It's been a long time since the announcement of the series based on One Piece, but it looks like Netflix is ready to present it, as it showed the first trailer at the Tudum event:
Here's What We Know
The video shows about 90 seconds of the pirate series live action with the main cast, which includes Iñaki Godoy in the title role, as well as giant sea monsters and a very elastic arm.
We've only seen small teasers before, but this one gives us our first real look at the show. Last month, Oda wrote a letter stating that Netflix "promised that we will not start the show until I am satisfied", which suggested that the series premiere might be delayed from the planned 2023. But it turned out that this was not the case:
"Given my life expectancy, I believe this is the last chance to introduce One Piece to the world," Oda said, "If we're going to do it, I want to have full control over the project while I'm still active. That's why I agreed to the One Piece adaptation back in 2016."
Netflix is hoping that One Piece will help turn the tide for their anime projects. So far, they have included the film Death Note and the series Cowboy Bebop, which was cancelled after one season.
When We Can Expect It
The One Piece series will launch on Netflix on the 31st of August.
