The announcement trailer for Bungie's shooter Marathon has become the most popular PlayStation Showcase video. The game has generated a lot of public interest, but the developers have yet to reveal any details about it.
While the game designers are keeping quiet, insider and journalist Tom Henderson found out some details about the game and rushed to share them.
Here's What We Know
- It seems that Marathon will be similar to Escape from Tarkov: the player or a group of players will have to prepare for a raid, make a landing, find valuable objects, complete certain tasks and successfully evacuate. In this they will be hampered both by bots and other players.
- If they die, all equipment is lost.
- The sorties take place on a planet with an unbreathable atmosphere, so players are limited to a supply of oxygen. Some can be taken on a mission or found during an expedition. Interestingly, player shots can damage the suit and life-support system, causing the oxygen to run out much faster.
- If hit in the head, the hero, if not killed, will receive a concussion, which will cause temporary visual impairment.
- On successful completion of the sortie, players will receive various passive bonuses (perks), which, unlike equipment, do not disappear after death. The bonuses do not change the gameplay dramatically, but they do give certain advantages.
- Marathon has various abilities that affect the gameplay, for example, you can get a special night vision mode.
- It is planned that the Marathon map will be constantly changing, most likely during the seasonal updates. According to Henderson, the developers are currently working on three maps, but they may not be included in the final version of the game.
Summing up, Henderson said that Bungie aims to create the perfect service game that will be fun to play for a long time. Given the popularity of the studio's other game, Destiny, they may well succeed.
