Bloober Team is entering a new era: the Polish company will abandon atmospheric walking simulators in favour of fast-paced horror games with dynamic gameplay for a wide audience

Bloober Team CEO Piotr Babieno has given an interview to Engadget in which he talks about some of the company's future plans.

Here's What We Know

Piotr Babieno stressed that the release of the remake and the Layers of Fear reimagining marked the end of the established Bloober Team games style.

All the games produced by the Polish studio were until that moment atmospheric, psychological horror games with a slow gameplay and almost no action elements. As such, they have established a reputation as "walking simulators", not always in a good way.

Babeno has stated that this stage in the studio's development is over. From now on, Bloober Team will make horror games with more emphasis on gameplay, action and drive, rather than concentrating only on story and atmosphere.

The Silent Hill 2 remake is a perfect illustration of Bloober Team's new approach: The team will continue making horror titles, but with a much higher level of appeal to a wider audience.

This year we're leaving the era where we did psychological horror. Right now we're moving towards Bloober Team version 3.0 and will be working on mass-market horror.

As for Silent Hill 2.

Peter Babeno revealed that he started talks with Konami back in 2015, but that at first their intention was not to create a remake of the cult game, but to develop a spin-off of Silent Hill. It wasn't until 2019 that Konami considered the potential of the Polish studio and invited its management to a business meeting about the collaboration, and the official announcement of the Silent Hill 2 remake took place in 2022.

We were so scared to touch the game. We knew from day one of negotiations that half the world would love us and the rest of the people would hate us. We were dealing with something sacred.
