Activision has updated the servers of old Call of Duty titles, and now online Black Ops has exceeded 100,000 active gamers
ActivisionBlizzard is actively preparing for the moment when the company will be acquired by Microsoft. Recently, the servers of the old Call of Duty titles, which were released back in the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 period, were updated, and the popularity of these games has grown significantly.
Here's What We Know
According to Insider Gaming, server updates have been applied to a number of Call of Duty games, from Modern Warfare 2 (2009) to Black Ops (2010), and players liked it. Most likely, after the deal is completed, most CoD titles will be added to the Xbox Game Pass subscription, so the games need to be freshened up a bit to make gamers want to play titles that were released more than 10 years ago.
For example, the Modern Warfare II Informer Twitter account showed that on 15 July, Call of Duty: Black Ops, which was released back in 2010, was played by more than 100,000 players at the same time, which is a very good result.
Flashback
In January, Microsoft announced the acquisition of ActivisionBlizzard, the creators of Call of Duty, Overwatch, World of Warcraft, and other franchises. The deal is worth $68.7 billion, which is significantly more than the $7.5 billion that Microsoft spent on the acquisition of Bethesda back in 2020. The deal is the largest in the history of gaming and is expected to close in the summer of 2023.
