Two new projects of Prince of Persia series - The Sands of Time remake and 2D-platformer The Lost Crown, presented last month - have caused an extremely strong and ambiguous reaction of the public.

It's still hard to say whether the scepticism of the series fans is justified, but TheGamer portal asked the franchise creator Jordan Mechner for his opinion about these Ubisoft projects.

Here's What We Know

Jordan Mechner has a positive attitude to both games and appreciates the labour of the developers.

In his opinion, Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown is exactly what is needed after 13 years of oblivion of the series. It is both a return to the classics and the realisation of new ideas. In addition, The Lost Crown does not require a lot of money and resources, but it will perfectly demonstrate the public's interest in the games of this series.

Jordan Mechner also mentioned the new hero, which many people didn't like. He does not consider Ubisoft's decision to change the protagonist to be wrong, and the public reaction is perceived as a manifestation of interest and concern.

As for the infamous remake of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, Mechner is convinced that the decision to cancel the release of the game presented in 2020 and the transfer of the project from the Indian division to Ubisoft Montreal will have a positive impact on the final quality of the project. He is convinced that the Canadian office has all the necessary resources to release a really high-quality remake that will not disappoint fans.

In general, Jordan Mechner is satisfied that after 13 years the developers will release two new games of Prince of Persia series at once, which will bring the game back to the centre of attention.

When We Can Expect It

Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown will release on 18 January 2024 on PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Xbox Series and Nintendo Switch.

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time is in early production and its release date is unknown.
