The suspicious Amico console may not come out at all
Intellivision Amico - an amazing console which, even if you know it, you probably only know it as the home of the new Jim the Worm game. The device is surrounded by questionable stories - more and more.
Preorders for Amico were opened in April 2020, and the release was going to be held in October 2020. But then there was a series of postponements, and there is still no new release date. So far it seems that Amico may not work out.
As the portal VGC drew attention, the trademark permission for Intellivision Amico has disappeared in the US Patent and Trademark Office. Now there are signs "Neglected" and "Dead". June 20, 2022 is indicated as the date when the stamp was thrown.
VGC writes that Intellivision, apparently, has not submitted applications for the extension of rights since November 2021. Intellivision still has the Intellivision and Amico trademarks assigned to it, but not on the combination of the two words together which is a sign that something is wrong with the company. Intellivision has two months to file a "resurrection petition.
However, this is not the only sign of problems. In June 2022, it became known that Intellivision was forced to significantly cut costs, carry out mass layoffs, and also begin licensing its old franchises in order to obtain funds for further development of Amico.
Of course, many buyers do not like this: they cancel the pre-order. Funds are being returned, but slowly, precisely because of mass layoffs and financing difficulties.
