Apple has released a stable version of iOS 16: what's new and when to expect the update

After nearly four months of testing, Apple has announced a stable version of iOS 16 for iPhone owners.
Here's What's New About It
Many innovations have been added to the update. For example, users can now customize the lock screen, install dynamic widgets, three-dimensional images, etc. Other new features include improved iMessage app: new features for editing, deleting and marking messages as unread. Dictation, updated Apple Maps app, new privacy and security features, redesigned Home app and more.

The firmware weighs over 2GB and has already been distributed in waves to supported models:
