Bloomberg: Apple will allow third-party app downloads in iOS 17
Bloomberg journalist and insider Mark Gurman has revealed that a long-awaited feature is coming to the iOS operating system.
Here's What We Know
It is about the ability to download applications not only from the App Store, but also from third-party sources. The innovation is due to appear in iOS 17. It will also allow developers to bypass the App Store tax, which currently ranges from 15% to 30%.
Apple has had to take this step because of a new European Union Digital Markets Act that comes into force in November 2022. It obliges manufacturers to provide users with access to third-party app shops.
By the way, iOS 17 will also introduce an updated Control Center, a new Health application, improved Always-On Display and interactive widgets. The system will be released at WWDC 2023 in early June.
