Media: Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema working on new films in the Lord of the Rings franchise
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema have begun work on new movies based on the Lord of the Rings universe.
Here's What We Know
It is reported that Warner Bros. has signed a long-term deal with Swedish holding company Embracer Group, which recently held the rights to the franchise.
Peter Jackson - the author of previous Lord of the Rings films - will take part in discussions about the further development of the brand, but it is not yet known whether he will direct the new films or the work will be entrusted to another director.
It is assumed that the events of the new Lord of the Rings films will affect the Third Age of Middle-earth, so their plot should not overlap with Amazon's Rings of Power series.
To recap, the next release based on the famous works of J.R.R. Tolkien will be the animated film The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim, due out in 2024.
