The first season of The Last of Us is over and Warner Bros. Discovery has reported its first viewership totals.

The series was the opener for 2023 and was a resounding success for HBO.

Viewers were thrilled with the first season, as evidenced by the statistics.

HBO has shared the viewing figures for each episode (note, the numbers are for the US only and indicate the number of views on the day of the premiere):

  • Episode 1 - 4.7 million (January 15);
  • Episode 2 - 5.7 million (January 22);
  • Episode 3 - 6.4 million (January 29);
  • Episode 4 - 7.5 million (February 5);

  • Episode 6 - 7.8 million (February 19);
  • Episode 7 - 7.7 million (February 26);
  • Episode 8 - 8.1 million (March 5);

The average audience for the first six episodes of The Last of Us reached 30.4 million viewers, and the first episode was watched by almost 40 million viewers in the US alone.

The Last of Us is currently the most-watched project in HBO's history in Europe and South America.

The adaptation of the famous game has already surpassed the fantasy series House of the Dragon in terms of views, but the Game of Thrones finale remains HBO's viewership leader so far, attracting 44 million viewers in 2019.
