Christopher Nolan breaks records again: "Oppenheimer" surpassed "It" at the worldwide box office and entered the Top 5 most profitable R-rated films ever made

Christopher Nolan's "Oppenheimer" has been winning the hearts of audiences for a month. Historical drama "moved" horror film "It" and thus, entered the list of the five highest-grossing R-rated films in the history of cinema.

Here's What We Know

Under Christopher Nolan's direction, "Oppenheimer" broke several box office records, and became the fourth most profitable film of the director's career. Earlier this month, the film surpassed "Fifty Shades of Grey" at the box office, which, at the time, put it on the list of the top ten highest-grossing R-rated films. And now it has leapfrogged the film "It" (2017) for a spot in the top five.

"Oppenheimer's" total worldwide box office receipts now stand at $727,524,270, surpassing "It"'s total of $701,012,746. There are now just four films ahead of "The Matrix Reloaded" ($738,576,929), "Deadpool" ($781,947,691), "Deadpool 2" ($786,362,370) and "Joker," which grossed a billion dollars ($1,066,208,658).

Even though "Oppenheimer" won't manage to top the list, this film can definitely continue to climb the rankings of R-rated films until it finishes showing in theatres.
