Daryl Dixon's spin-off seeks to get back to basics by recreating the more focused narrative style that characterised the early seasons of "The Walking Dead" to regain the love and attention of viewers who have lost interest in the series due to an endlessly expanding cast and new villainous groups.

Based on Robert Kirkman's comic books, "The Walking Dead" series debuted on AMC in 2010 and quickly became an integral part of pop culture. Although the series' influence on pop culture gradually waned over time over its eleven seasons, it remained popular enough for AMC to create numerous spin-offs, even after the main series ended.
Among them is the upcoming series about Daryl Dixon, set in France.
Sharing his thoughts with Polygon, Greg Nicotero, executive producer and special effects artist on "The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon," shared that the spin-off draws inspiration from the early seasons of the original series, "keeping the stories singular and focused." Nicotero also recalled working with Frank Darabont, the first showrunner of The Walking Dead, during those initial seasons.
It was really like starting all over again and doing what Frank Darabont and I did in season 1. I think what was really the most important thing on Daryl Dixon was to go back to the DNA of what made the original first few seasons of The Walking Dead so good, which was keeping the stories singular and focused. The proliferation of characters, brutal murders of beloved characters and the introduction of new villainous groups, from the Saviours to the Whisperers, have lost sight of the show's original focus and caused a portion of the audience to lose interest in the series.
