James Gunn promises to surprise: DCU's first draft isn't what you think it is
James Gunn promises something unexpected in the first DCU project. It's in development, and according to Gunn, the project isn't at all what we're expecting.
Here's What We Know
Although "Superman: Legacy" was planned to be the first film in the DCU series, the first project in that universe will be an animated show called "Creature Commandos," which will soon debut on Max.
Gunn on Instagram, responding to a fan's question:
"It's animated so it's separate from the strike. We're working on it. I love it. I think it's going to be so different than what people expect."
"Creature Commandos" will tell the story of Amanda Waller's creation of a secret team that is made up of very unique prisoners. The team has been featured in the comics and includes a Frankenstein monster, a werewolf, a vampire, a gorgon and a regular human who is the leader of the team.
"Yeah, we've recorded a lot of material," said David Harbour, who voices the character Eric Frankenstein on the show.
"And I mean not only do I get to play in the DC universe, I get to play in the James Gunn DC universe, which is a whole new exciting thing. I didn't know what it was when it was sent to me, I met with James and he laid out a lot of stuff. It's really exciting, he considers it some of the best stuff he’s ever written. It's hilarious, and the character is great. I think it's been announced that it's Frankenstein and it's a very colorful, terrific character."
When We Can Expect It
The Creature Commandos animation is scheduled for release in 2024, while the Superman reboot film will hit cinemas on 11 July 2025.
