Laughter, action and adrenaline - 'Bad Boys' returns: director reveals hot details and title of fourth instalment
Fans who have been eagerly awaiting the return of Bad Boys can exhale with relief - the actioner will return to screens with a fourth instalment. And now, we've been revealed plot details and, of course, the mysterious title of the new film.
Here's What We Know
Bad Boys 4 will see the return of franchise stars Will Smith (yes, even after the Oscar slapping scandal, but more on that later) and Martin Lawrence, as well as directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah. The former has hinted that the new film may be titled Bad Boys Ride or Die."
"Well, you know, the title that we like – I don't know that they're going to go for it yet – would be like Bad Boys Ride or Die because Bad Boys 4 Life is already taken. We didn't know there was going to be a fourth one, you know?". - El Arbi said in an interview for The Playlist's The Discourse podcast. "But yeah, what's going to happen in this one is, I think that there's going to be way more comedy. The third one had the dramatic tone. With this one, it's really our purpose to get people laughing and having a good time in the theater. Martin [Lawrence] is going to a higher level in this one. This is the culmination of the Marcus Burnett arc."
What will the 4th film tell us?
The plot details of the fourth instalment of "Bad Boys" remain a secret for now, except for the information that the film will be a continuation of the adventures of Mike Lowrey and Marcus Burnett. The cast also includes Vanessa Hudgens as Kelly, Alexander Ludwig as Dorn, Paola Núñez as Captain Rita Secada, John Salley as Fletcher and Tasha Smith as Theresa Burnett. The roles of the rest of the cast have not yet been disclosed.
The main question, for many, was whether Will Smith would return to the franchise after his Oscar antics. The incident between Smith and Chris Rock at the 2022 Academy Awards led to Smith's temporary disqualification from AMPAS and jeopardised the actor's future projects, including the production of Bad Boys 4.
As a reminder, Smith went on stage right during the broadcast and slapped Chris Rock after the latter made a joke about Smith's wife's haircut. In the actor's defence, Jada Pinkett-Smith's similar "hairstyle" is nothing but alopecia, which is the result of her years-long battle with an autoimmune disease.
When We Can Expect It
There's no exact release date yet, but it's reported that "Bad Boys 4" will be released in the summer of 2024.
