One, two, three, burn: Joaquin Phoenix sets Moscow on fire - new footage of Ridley Scott's historical epic Napoleon
Ahead of the release of the new historical epic 'Napoleon' from director Ridley Scott, fresh footage from the film has been released showing Oscar winner Joaquin Phoenix as Napoleon setting fire to Moscow.
Here's What We Know
"Napoleon" is one of the most anticipated projects of the year. The historical epic will also star Vanessa Kirby, Tahar Rahim and Ben Miles.
Entertainment Weekly has unveiled new images showing Bonaparte entering the battlefield. Several of the photos show Napoleon riding a white horse in his military uniform and show the obvious destructive power of war.
These images also point to one of Napoleon's greatest military decisions, the invasion of Russia. They show the Emperor's arrival in Moscow and a fire in the city.
Also, a teaser of the film was recently released, which contains a phrase that characterises the entire film: "You are the greatest leader in the history of the world, Napoleon."
Here's What The Movie Is About
The film will tell the story of the rise to power of Napoleon Bonaparte, the military commander and leader of France. The military genius' personal relationship with his favourite empress Josephine, played by Vanessa Kirby, will also be explored.
Kirby admitted that the role of Josephine did not come easily to her:
"What was so challenging, and kind of elusive, about her, was that every single book, whether it was first-hand accounts, third-hand stories, documents, testimonies, and Napoleon’s letters… every single one was completely different. She was just this massive contradiction. Every time I thought I’d locked down, ‘Okay, this is who she is, and I think I can get hold of this’, something would completely counteract it.".
When We Can Expect It
"Napoleon" will be released in cinemas on 22 November. The film is being distributed by Apple TV+ and will be available to watch on the platform after the big screen broadcasts.
