Long-awaited return: It looks like The Rocketeer will be taking flight again - the film's reboot has finally found a screenwriter
After a long silence on how things are progressing with The Rocketeer film reboot, there's finally some comforting news - a screenwriter has been found.
Here's What We Know
Work on The Rocketeer reboot was announced back in 2021, but little has been known about the film since then.
Now, The Wrap has released information that Eugene Ashe, known for Sylvie's Love and Homecoming, is working on the script for the film, which will be released exclusively on the Disney+ platform. As a reminder, this will be the second Rocketeer film following the 1991 Joe Johnston-directed adventure starring Billy Campbell and Jennifer Connelly.
The main character, based on Dave Stevens' comic book character, will be played by David Oyelowo, who is a big fan of the original film. According to the actor, he even had a poster of The Rocketeer hanging in his room.
Here's What The Movie Is About
The Rocketeer comics tell the story of Cliff Secord, a young stunt pilot who stumbles upon a prototype jetpack. Secord straps himself into the rocket and becomes a high-flying hero known as The Rocketeer. However, when Nazis and other villains take an interest in the rocketpack, Secord must use his new abilities to protect his loved ones and save the day.
According to reports, the new version of "Rocketeer" will focus on a retired Tuskegee Airman who will take on the mantle of the Rocketeer.
The Rocketeer Stevens stories were originally published by Pacific Comics, with the rights passing to IDW after the author's death in 2008.
When We Can Expect It
A release date for the new The Rocketeer has not yet been announced.
