Director Shawn Levy admits that the inspiration for the new "Deadpool 3" was a snippet from "Star Wars"
Director Shawn Levy shared that he was inspired to work on "Deadpool 3" by moments from the iconic film "Star Wars. Episode VI: Return of the Jedi", which he saw as a child.
Here's What We Know
Levy paid special attention to the scene in which the main character, Luke Skywalker, hides from Darth Vader in the Emperor's chambers, and Vader utters the phrase: "If you will not turn to the dark side, then perhaps your sister will". Whereupon the battle began, which plunged the entire cinema into silence for 40 seconds.
That's what a blockbuster should be, according to Levy: "That’s the essence of the blockbuster. When the tone is singular, when the themes are resonant, when the experience is connective, when the audience is reminded that the world is far bigger than ourselves, it creates a forever memory."
"I’m now making Deadpool 3, the production of which was paused because of the actors’ strike. For one key scene in the movie, I said to my stunt and action team, "Guys, this is the Jedi moment.” - the director recalled.
Levy even downloaded that epic scene with Vader and Luke onto his mobile phone to scrutinise how it was filmed, what shots were used, and what pace was held in that moment.
Without going into details, Shawn Levy said that "Deadpool 3" viewers should recognise an episode that appeared to be inspired by "Star Wars". The director is sure that such inspirational moments will remain in his memory forever and he values them as true cinematic treasures.
When We Can Expect It
Recall that due to the actors' strike, the exact release date of "Deadpool 3" is still unknown. Previously, Marvel Studios planned to release the film on May 3, 2024, but the situation may change.
