Marvel Studios presents the trailer for the second season of the "What If...?" anthology: a missing episode and a new release strategy

The second season of "What If...?", an anthology from Marvel Studios telling stories from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, is coming to Disney+ in December.

Here's What We Know

The studio has unveiled a trailer for the new season, which confirms the series' unusual release strategy.

Judging by the clip, which is voiced by Jeffrey Wright in the role of the Observer, new episodes will be released every day for nine days.

A.C. Bradley developed "What If...?" for Disney+. In addition to Wright as The Watcher, the first season's voice cast includes Benedict Cumberbatch, Hayley Atwell, Lake Bell, Chadwick Boseman, Michael B. Jordan and Chris Hemsworth.

As for the missing Gamora episode from the first season of "What If...," Bradley hinted that fans will still be able to see it in a future season:

"We definitely will. What happened with the Gamora episode, there was originally supposed to be — early on in the season — a Tony and Gamora-centric episode. However, due to COVID and production delays, one of our amazing, amazing animation houses around the globe got hit pretty hard by the pandemic. And we were left with two choices: push the entire season to later this year, or push this one episode to Season 2. We made the choice to push that episode to Season 2, and hoped that seeing Gamora in the finale serves as a teaser for what is to come. In season two, it'll almost be like a little bit of a prequel, we'll see how Tony and Gamora became friends, because those two don't even interact in the main MCU universe."

Series Overview

According to the official description from Marvel Studios, the second season of "What If...?" continues the Watcher-led journey, introducing viewers to the diverse faces and plot twists in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). The series continues to explore and reimagine iconic MCU moments while spotlighting an amazing ensemble of voice actors, including a host of stars returning to their iconic roles. In the new season, viewers can expect to meet characters like Nebula, Hela and Happy Hogan that fans have come to love.

Episodes are directed by executive producer Bryan Andrews, with writer-director A.C. Bradley.
