Finish Them: Mortal Kombat 2 filming has reportedly resumed - what's known about the sequel to the cult action film

It looks like things are starting to move forward in the production of Mortal Kombat 2, the sequel to the successful cinematic incarnation of the 2021 video game.

Here's What We Know

Mortal Kombat is an iconic video game that already received a decent film adaptation back in 1995. The film was a great financial success, but ultimately didn't satisfy the game's fans' thirst for bloody battles.

That need was closed by the 2021 Mortal Kombat film, which was rated-R. It didn't become a cult hit like the original, but it finally brought that long-awaited toughness and blood, becoming a good start to a promising franchise that is ready to continue with Mortal Kombat 2.

The Mortal Kombat sequel is still in the early stages of development. The casting process is in full swing and many stars from the first film are expected to return to their roles.

Lewis Tan as Cole Young, Jessica McNamee as Sonya Blade, Mehcad Brooks as Jax, Tadanobu Asano as Raiden are all expected to return, but have not been confirmed, Hiroyuki Sanada as Scorpion, Chin Han as Shang Tsung, Ludi Lin as Liu Kang, and Joe Taslim as Sab-Ziro (or his undead character, Nub Cybot).

Tati Gabrielle and Adeline Rudolph are joining the sequel as Jade and Princess Kitana.

The Boys actor Karl Urban is reportedly in final negotiations to join Mortal Kombat 2 as a character who was not in the first film. Urban is reportedly bidding for the role of Johnny Cage, a vain actor turned hero who has been in the franchise since the first game.

By the way, it was Urban who announced on his Instagram a few days ago that filming of Mortal Kombat 2 had resumed.

Simon McQuoid is set to direct the sequel, just like the first film.

When We Can Expect It

Warner Bros. has not yet announced a release date for the film.
