Director Michael Mann has confirmed that Adam Driver is close to replacing Robert De Niro as Neil Macauley in Heat 2
Michael Mann has announced that Oscar-winner Adam Driver is in talks to play Neil Macauley, originally played by Robert De Niro, in the crime thriller Heat 2.
Here's What We Know
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Mann was asked about a possible collaboration with Driver in the sequel to "Heat." To which the director cryptically replied:
"Yeah, we’re in discussion. That’s all I can say about it."
Well, although ambiguous, it's still clear that Driver is still tagging along as the young, disciplined criminal and thief Macauley. Heat 2 is expected to tell the story of why the outlaw believes you can't get attached to something you're not ready to give up "if you feel the heat around the corner".
The original "Heat" came out back in 1995 and was written and directed by Michael Mann himself. The first instalment starred Al Pacino and Robert De Niro as a cop and a criminal respectively, exploring the conflict between Pacino, a detective with the Los Angeles Police Department, and De Niro, a career criminal.
As a reminder, Mann's other shared work with Driver, the film "Ferrari," will be released soon. The release date is December 25, 2023.
