Jack Black wants to turn the sequel to "The Super Mario Bros. Movie" into a musical, using "Joker 2" as an example
Bowser's Jack Black has stated that if the sequel is approved, but he would like it to be a full-fledged musical called "Bowser's Revenge".
Here's What We Know
"The Mario Brothers" was praised by critics for its vivid visuals, clearly calibrated world, and overall fidelity to the Mario franchise. The film has grossed over $1 billion worldwide. It wouldn't be surprising if they wanted to extend it and make a second instalment.
Speaking on the Variety Awards Circuit podcast, Black explained that he is open to returning to his role as Bowser in the sequel to "The Super Mario Bros. Movie," but admitted that he has not yet heard if Universal Pictures and Illumination plan to release a sequel to the successful 2023 animated film.
"It has been radio silence," Black shared. "The only chatter has been coming from me, and I don't even know if I'm allowed to chatter. I've been chomping at the bit to get back to business."
Black also admitted that he has been mulling over ideas for a potential sequel. He suggests that the second Mario Brothers movie should be a true musical, similar to "Joker 2," in which Lady Gaga is rumoured to showcase her vocal prowess and the main character would simply be the centre of attention. Black's suggested title for the musical is a variant of Bowser's Revenge.
Bowser's romantic ode to Princess Peach in the animated film was an instant hit, charting on the Billboard Hot 100, but Black was initially hesitant about singing in the film.
He told IGN in April that he tries "not to be involved in a lot of projects" where his characters sing, but he couldn't pass up the opportunity to do a love song. And it looks like now, Black has expressed his desire to showcase his vocal abilities in the sequel to The Super Mario Bros. Movie.
