There will be no director's version of Suicide Squad - David Ayer is leaving DC
'Suicide Squad' director David Ayer has said he is "done" with the idea of an extended director's cut of the film, revealing that WB has no interest in it.
Here's What We Know
Ayer announced the news on X, ranting: "I'm done with DC".
Of course, fans were quick to respond and asked in the comments if this meant he really wasn't going to fight to release his version of Suicide Squad. And Ayer replied: "Nope. Done and done. Very sad. You'll be fine after a good cry. I feel healthier. It's a wound that needs to heal."
One DC fan asked if this change of heart about the Ayer Cut was due to James Gunn moving to DC Studios, to which Ayer replied: "Nothing about the situation feels good. Studio has no interest in releasing it. It's time to run and not look back."
Ayer had previously said in interviews that he put his heart into Suicide Squad and created something amazing, and the studio's edit is not his film. The director assured that his version of the edit would show a completely different story with a different message.
We would be shown increased screen time for Jared Leto as the Joker, including a major comeback in the third act; a romance between Harley Quinn and Deadshot; additional backstories for some characters and confirmed on-screen deaths for those who simply disappeared in the theatrical version; scenes depicting the Joker's aggressive attitude towards Harley Quinn; plus, Diablo's character had to survive the events of the film.
It's a shame that Suicide Squad won't get its own extended version like it did with Zack Snyder's Justice League.
