The Jedi Path Unrealised: 'Game of Thrones' creators talk about their 'Star Wars' project that never came to fruition
"Game of Thrones" directors David Benioff and Dan Weiss have revealed the plot of their Star Wars movie, which was cancelled back in 2019.
Here's What We Know
"We wanted to do The First Jedi" Benioff said in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. "Basically how the Jedi Order came to be, why it came to be, the first lightsaber. [Lucasfilm] ended up not wanting to do a First Jedi story. We had a very specific story idea in mind, and ultimately they decided they didn’t want to do that. And we totally get it. It’s their company and their IP, but we weren’t the droids they were looking for."
When the film was announced in 2018, Lucasfilm's president, Kathleen Kennedy, had high hopes for it and noted that it was being made "some of the best storytellers working today". But in 2019, Benioff and Weiss announced they were leaving the project, saying they were leaving because they couldn't squeeze between "Star Wars" and their projects on Netflix.
For now, the director duo are set to unveil their new sci-fi series "3 Body Problem" on March 21 exclusively on Netflix.
