The sequel to "Spider-Verse," released in 2018, was named Best Animated Film at the Critics Choice Awards (CCA) before the ceremony even began, which aired on The CW.

Here's What We Know

Despite Golden Globe 2024 going to Hayao Miyazaki's The Boy and the Heron, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse still beat it in the same category at the CCAs. Other competitors included "Elemental" (Pixar), "Wish" (Walt Disney Animation Studios), "Nimona" (Netflix) and "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem" (Paramount Pictures).

"Spider-Verse 2" is also nominated for Best Music and Best Visual Effects, becoming the only animated film in that category. Among the nominees are "The Creator," "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3," "Poor Things," "Oppenheimer," and "Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One."

Here's What The Movie Is About

Miles Morales reunites with Gwen Stacy and encounters the Spider Society, an elite team of Spider-Men assigned to protect the Multiverse from canon-breaking events and other anomalies. But when the heroes disagree on how to deal with a new threat - Spider-Man's "rival", Spot - Miles finds himself up against Miguel O'Hara/Spider-Man 2099 and the other Spider-Men, and must redefine what it means to be a hero in order to save those he loves most.

The animated film received a 95% on Rotten Tomatoes, making it one of the best rated films of 2023.

Sony Pictures Animation is currently developing "Spider-Verse 3," titled "Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse," and the project's producer Phil Lord has promised that the film will be a "satisfying ending" to the franchise.
