"Blue Beetle" taken into a new phase of the DC Universe: Xolo Mariduena confirms the return of Jaime Reyes in Gunn's reimagined universe
The first Latino actor to play the lead role of a Superhero in a solo film, Xolo Mariduena, claims that his character Blue Beetle will definitely return in the new DC universe reimagined by James Gunn.
Here's What We Know
To recall, after the old DC phase ended with the release of 'Aquaman 2', DC Studios co-CEO, James Gunn, stated that not all characters will continue in the new universe.
However, in a fresh interview, Mariduena stated that he is "confident" that Jaime Reyes (aka Blue Beetle) will definitely return.
"I know we'll see Blue Beetle again, whether it comes in the form of Blue Beetle 2 or wherever. It's been really great to work alongside James and Peter, who have graciously folded us into their new universe even though it wasn't part of what they came up with. It's an honor. Now, where Blue Beetle heads in the future? I don't know. But I can confidently say that we will see him soon."
The Blue Beetle film, released in the summer of 2023, was clearly not a box office hit and barely recouped its production budget, grossing only $130.8 million on an investment of $125 million. Based on that, it's hard to say if the studio has any interest in making a sequel. But, given that Gunn intends to "put DC on its feet", it is likely that if Blue Beetle appeared in some successful film of the studio, it would attract interest in the character and give hope for a sequel.
As a reminder, DC's new canon will begin with "Creature Commandos" and officially kick off with "Superman: Legacy" in 2025.
