HBO is developing a "Game of Thrones" spin-off about Aegon the Conqueror: Mattson Tomlin, who worked on "Batman", has been appointed screenwriter
Finally, the much-discussed spin-off centred on a key character in the history of Westeros, Aegon the Conqueror, has been confirmed. HBO are already actively working on a direct prequel to the successful House of the Dragon and have even appointed a screenwriter.
Here's What We Know
The script for the upcoming spin-off will be written by Mattson Tomlin, who worked on Matt Reeve's "The Batman" and is currently co-writing "The Batman Part II." Tomlin also wrote the comic book adaptation of "BRZRKR" with Keanu Reeves and the animated series "Terminator" for Netflix, for which he is showrunner.
Also represented by agencies CAA, Brillstein Entertainment Partners and Goodman Genow, Tomlin has demonstrated his ability to work across genres by producing a superhero crime thriller for Netflix starring Jamie Foxx called "Project Power" and serving as a consultant on an Oscar-nominated animated film called "The Sea Beast".
Series Overview
The prequel, which will tentatively be titled "Aegon's Conquest", will tell the story of the Targaryens' bloody conquest of Westeros. The plot follows the invader Aegon Targaryen, who conquered the continent of Westeros with his sister-wives, Rhaenys and Visenya, and their dragons. Aegon successfully united six of the seven kingdoms in just two years, and only Dorne was able to successfully resist.
One source described the project as a "return to basics" in the epic fantasy universe of George R.R. Martin.
As a reminder, it was previously announced (in April 2023) that HBO has ordered production on another "Game of Thrones" series called "A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight," which will be based on the story "Dunk and Egg."
