Nvidia has announced a "multi-year collaboration" with Microsoft "to create one of the most powerful AI supercomputers in the world", which will be designed to handle huge computational loads, which in turn are necessary for training and scaling artificial intelligence.

Here's What We Know

The computer will be based on the Microsoft Azure cloud infrastructure. The device will use tens of thousands of powerful Nvidia H100 and A100 GPUs and Qualcommn-2 InfiniBand networking platform for data processing. According to Nvidia, this combo will enable more enterprises to train, deploy and scale artificial intelligence, including large, state-of-the-art models. The two companies will also co-develop DeepSpeed, Microsoft's software for optimizing deep learning.

"The progress of artificial intelligence technologies as well as industry adoption is accelerating. Breakthroughs in the underlying models have sparked a tidal wave of research, fostered new startups and created new enterprise applications," said Manuvir Das, vice president of enterprise computing at Nvidia. "Our collaboration with Microsoft will provide researchers and companies with the most advanced AI infrastructure and software to benefit from the transformative power of AI."
