Google has announced that later in 2023, it plans to integrate Microsoft 365 tools into its chromeOS desktop operating system to make it easier for users to interact with Microsoft software. chromeOS already supports PWA versions of Microsoft 365 and One Drive, but Google promises deeper integration at the system level.

Here's What We Know

The integration will include step-by-step setup and installation of all Microsoft 365 apps and connecting your One Drive account directly to chromeOS Files, allowing you to easily move documents between your Google Drive, internal laptop storage, and Microsoft storage. In general, these updates look very attractive, as previously users had to use either web versions of apps or download Android versions from the Play Store, which was not as convenient and could often be crashy.

Google promises to provide more information about the feature "a little later". Traditionally, members of the chromeOS beta branch will have the opportunity to try the feature a little earlier than others. You can join the beta testing programme in the system settings, but keep in mind that this may erase all your files and that you may not always receive stable OS builds in the future.
