LinkedIn launches its own profile verification feature
LinkedIn, the social networking and business networking site owned by Microsoft, is launching a free verification system (how's that, Elon Musk?) that will allow users to verify their identity and workplace. The verification options include the ability to use CLEAR to verify your identity, verify your workplace using your email address, and the Microsoft Entra verified ID platform to obtain digital workplace identifiers for free.
Company email verification is now available to all LinkedIn users if they work for more than 4,000 supported companies. Microsoft Entra verification will launch at the end of April, initially for 2 million LinkedIn users.
"Authenticity online has never been more important, - says Alex Weinert, vice president of identity security at Microsoft, - we’ve seen a steady uptick in fraudulent presentations with people pretending to be people they’re not in all kinds of different forms. You want to know really that if you interact with somebody who says they’re employed by a certain company or represent a certain company that you can trust who they say they are. The need for that is pretty clear." Unlike other social networks such as Instagram, Facebook or Twitter, verification on LinkedIn is completely free, so if you are registered on the network, you can use the feature to make your profile even more trustworthy.
