Here's What We Know
The head of the Polish government announced investment of more than $196 million in the production of the AHS Krab. The additional funding will support the production of self-propelled howitzers amid growing demand both within Poland and from other countries.
The AHS Krab is designed and developed by Huta Stalowa Wola in conjunction with OBRUM and BAE Systems. It uses the South Korean chassis from the K9 Thunder and the turret from the British AS90 Braveheart self-propelled howitzer. The crew consists of five personnel.
The artillery system is equipped with a 155/52 calibre gun. It is designed by BAE and allows firing at a range of 4.7-40 kilometres. The howitzer is capable of firing three shots in less than 10 seconds.
Poland has received several orders for the production of the AHS Krab, including 122 units for its own needs. In late spring 2023, Ukraine agreed to supply 56 self-propelled howitzers.
