Germany has confirmed that it will supply Ukraine with an additional batch of Leopard 1 tanks
The other day we wrote that an unknown country had purchased an additional batch of Leopard 1 tanks for Ukraine. As it turned out, this country was Germany.
Here's What We Know
The information was shared by the German edition of Deutsche Welle, referring to the words of a representative of the Ministry of Defence of the country. We are talking about 25 Leopard 1A5 tanks, five armoured recovery vehicles and two training tanks. The German government has signed a contract with Rheinmetall for the supply and repair of equipment. By the way, the AFU should receive about 200 Leopard 1 tanks in total. Perhaps, some of them are already in Ukraine.
Flashback
Leopard 1 is the main battle tank of Germany. It was started to be developed after the Second World War together with France, but then the co-operation was stopped. Leopard 1 is in service with 12 countries. Thanks to the modernisation programme, it is still in use. By the way, by 1984, about 4,744 units of Leopard 1 were produced. The tank participated in the Bosnian War, as well as in the War in Afghanistan.
