Motorola Moto G54 Power Edition review: 120 Hz and 6000 mAh available to everyone
There is quite a lot of competition in the mid-range, but the Motorola Moto G54 Power Edition looks like one of the most interesting smartphones, given the price. First of all, it will appeal to users for whom autonomy is extremely important. With moderate use, the smartphone can last up to two days. Other advantages include a good primary camera, a large amount of expandable storage, eSIM support, and a good quality IPS display with a 120Hz refresh rate. As always with Motorola models, the smartphone runs on pure Android 13, unencumbered by additional shells and third-party applications. Among the weaknesses of the smartphone, it is worth noting the low quality and resolution of video recording. As well as mediocre performance. The closest competitor is Xiaomi Redmi Note 12. Its advantages include an AMOLED display. But the smartphone is inferior to the Motorola Moto G54 Power Edition in terms of battery capacity.
5 reasons to buy the Motorola Moto G54 Power Edition:

What's in the box?
The Motorola Moto G54 Power Edition has the typical packaging and delivery set for modern smartphones from the company. It differs from more expensive models only in the absence of a box fragrance. In addition to the smartphone, the box contains a transparent silicone protective bumper, a 33W power supply, a Type-C cable, a tray clip, and a set of documentation.
What does the Motorola Moto G54 Power Edition look like?
From the front, the Motorola Moto G54 Power Edition is a typical representative of modern mid-range smartphones. The bezels around the screen are relatively thin, but there is a wide chin. The screen and protective glass are flat, the front camera is located in a round hole in the middle of the top of the screen. Above the screen is the earpiece speaker, which is also used for stereo sound.
The smartphone has only a glass front panel. Everything else is made of plastic. Unlike the streamlined shape of the Edge line, the smartphone has flat dark grey bezels. The layout of the functional elements is standard. The tray is on the left, and the volume and power buttons are on the right side. They are placed at a convenient height and you don't have to reach for them. The power button is large because it also serves as a fingerprint scanner.
On the top there is an additional microphone and a mark of support for Dolby Audio virtual surround sound. At the bottom is a Type-C connector for charging and syncing, the main speaker, a microphone, and a standard 3.5mm headphone or headset jack.
The tray is not quite the usual one. It supports the installation of a single SIM card as well as a MicroSD memory card. You can use an eSIM as a second SIM card.
The back panel has small roundings around the perimeter. It is made of plastic with a pleasant silky texture. It does not collect fingerprints, but it is quite slippery. The smartphone is available in green, blue and navy blue colours. The last variant was on review. In person, it looks closer to black with blue highlights. It looks quite interesting.
The rear camera module is typical for current Motorola models: a rectangle with rounded corners, which contains two lenses, a flash and basic camera information. It does not protrude above the back cover as much as in more expensive models.
Motorola Moto G54 Power Edition is quite large: 161.6x73.8x8.9 mm and weighs 192 g, which is due to the large battery inside. The case is splash-proof. Only the more expensive models have full protection against water and dust.
How good is the screen?
Motorola Moto G54 Power Edition has a 6.5-inch screen with a resolution of 2400x1080 (aspect ratio 20:9), pixel density is about 405 ppi. Unlike older models, it uses an IPS matrix. The maximum refresh rate is 120 Hz. There is a choice between 60, 120 Hz and automatic mode. In the settings, you can choose a dark or light interface theme, adjust the brightness, scale of elements on the screen, text size, enable night mode, and choose between two colour display modes with colour temperature settings.
The screen is of very good quality. It has fairly natural colours and good viewing angles. Although the contrast drops slightly at angles. The brightness level is sufficient, but without a margin: in summer, under direct sunlight, it may not be very comfortable to read information. In the bright mode, the maximum brightness was 325.676 cd/m2, the black field brightness was 0.273 cd/m2, and the static contrast was 1193:1. The colour gamut is slightly wider than sRGB. The colour temperature is close to 8000K, the picture is slightly inclined to cold shades.
In the "Natural" mode, the colour gamut is close to sRGB, and the colour reproduction is closer to the reference values. The maximum brightness is 318.067 cd/m2, the black field brightness is 0.269 cd/m2 and the static contrast is 1182:1.
Comparison with other models:

What are the unlocking methods?
To unlock your smartphone, you can use the standard set of fingerprint scanner and face recognition. The scanner is located in the power button and works perfectly. Very fast and without errors. Face recognition is performed exclusively by the front camera. So this is not a very secure way to unlock. And in low light conditions it doesn't work very well.
What about performance, memory, sound and battery life?
Motorola Moto G54 Power Edition is equipped with a Mediatek Dimensity 7020 processor, which was actually previously called Dimensity 930. Mediatek decided to bring all its current processors to a single naming system. This is an 8-core processor manufactured on a 6-nanometre process technology, with 2 productive ARM Cortex-A78 cores with a frequency of up to 2.2 GHz and 6 energy-efficient Cortex-A55 cores with a frequency of up to 2 GHz, and a graphics accelerator - IMG BXM-8-256. This is a processor for mid-budget smartphones with low performance. 12 GB of RAM, 256 GB of internal storage. There is also support for MicroSD memory cards up to 1 TB. The smartphone demonstrates low results in performance tests, which is quite expected. During use, there are no problems with performance: the interface is fast and stable, applications launch and work well. But heavy games do not work well.
The processor turned out to be quite cold: in the CPU Throttling Test stress test, performance can drop to only 90% after 15 minutes of maximum load. The smartphone case remains cold.
Most modern games run on a smartphone, but you can't crank the graphics settings to the maximum. Call of Duty Mobile works well, with a fairly stable 60 FPS. Diablo Immortal is worse. Only 30Hz mode is available and there are freezes during the game.
Motorola Moto G54 Power Edition is equipped with dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 5.1 LE and NFC for contactless payment. Support for global positioning systems: GPS, A-GPS, LTEPP, GLONASS, Galileo, QZSS. Beidou. The smartphone reproduces stereo sound using the main and earpiece speakers and supports Dolby Atmos virtual surround sound. The volume is sufficient, but the quality is not the best, there are no low frequencies and there is a minimal imbalance of the speakers. But it would be strange to expect top-notch sound from an affordable model. A nice bonus for owners of wired headphones is the standard 3.5 mm output, which has been abandoned not only in flagships but also in mid-range models.
Motorola Moto G54 Power Edition has a large 6000 mAh battery. The smartphone supports the company's proprietary 30W TurboPower fast charging. The smartphone charges from 0 to 100% in about an hour and a half. The smartphone has excellent battery life. With a heavy load (benchmarks, games, camera use in addition to standard daily tasks), the smartphone lasts for a day and a half. If you don't play games and don't use it very actively, you can get two days.
How user-friendly is the interface?
Like all other smartphones from the company, Motorola Moto G54 Power Edition runs on almost pure Android 13, and we have already talked about the interface many times in previous reviews. Everything is quite familiar: a lot of personalisation options (wallpapers, colour schemes, fonts), desktops with grid settings, widgets, a separate menu with all applications, a curtain with large switches, gesture or button navigation.
Additional features from Motorola are collected in the Moto app. There are gestures to quickly launch the camera or flashlight, quick screen splitting, Moto Secure (security settings and a secure folder), additional display settings and entertainment (Games, Dolby Atmos and volume control settings for music playback using the volume buttons).
Unlike more expensive models, Ready For desktop mode is not supported
How good are the cameras?
The rear camera unit of the Motorola Moto G54 Power Edition includes two modules. The main one has 50 megapixels, f/1.8 aperture, 0.61 µm pixel size, PDAF phase detection and optical stabilisation. The ultra-wide-angle module has a resolution of 8 MP, f/2.2, 118˚. It has autofocus and is also designed for macro. The smartphone can record video in FullHD@30/60. The front camera is 16 MP, f/2.4.
We have already seen the Motorola camera app. Switching modes with horizontal swipes, a separate section with additional modes, basic settings on the viewfinder screen, additional settings in the drop-down menu:
The main camera uses the Quad Pixel four-pixel combination scheme standard for most modern smartphones, and the resolution of photos is 12.5 megapixels. In good light, the camera takes high-quality pictures with good detail and mostly natural colours. Although the dynamic range is not the widest and the camera does not work perfectly with shadows. At night, photos lose some detail, digital noise and not very natural shades may appear, which is typical for night mode.
The ultra-wide-angle camera has an undoubted advantage in the form of autofocus. The photos are of good quality in sufficient light, but in the evening there is a lot of noise and blurring:
Macro shots with the ultra-wide-angle camera are noticeably better than with separate 2-megapixel macro cameras that are commonly installed in inexpensive smartphones:
Video is not the smartphone's strong point. The maximum resolution is FullHD 60 FPS. There is stabilisation, but the artefacts from its operation are very noticeable: the detail is reduced and there is a jelly effect.
- Long battery life and fast charging
- High-quality main camera
- Good IPS screen with a refresh rate of 120 Hz
- 12 GB of RAM, 256 GB of internal memory and a MicroSD slot
