Netflix continues to actively fight against account sharing. The streaming service will penalize users for this.

Here's What We Know

The streaming service is struggling with losing users. Although at the end of the third quarter, their number increased by 2.4 million, resulting in the U.S. company's shares rose by 15% after the publication of the report.

Last quarter, Netflix stopped losing subscribers thanks in particular to the second half of the fourth season of the series Stranger Things. The streaming service now has 223 million subscribers (+2.6% year-over-year), and should grow to 227 million by the end of the year.

But now back to sanctions. Netflix wants to charge a monthly fee to subscribers who share their account login. The penalty would be about $3-4. The streaming service has tested this "technology" in Latin America.

What about competitors? HBO Max doesn't impose any restrictions. Disney Plus limits the number of devices tied to one account. Users must be in the same country or region to use one Amazon Prime Video account.

To avoid sanctions, Netflix has introduced a migration tool that transfers account data to a new subscription. It's also worth recalling that the company recently announced a new plan with ads. It costs $7 a month and will be available Nov. 3. At the same time, a survey by Android Authority showed that almost 80% of users are definitely not going to save money on the plan.
