The Ukrainian defence forces have destroyed a very rare Russian electronic warfare station RB-636M2 Svet-KU. This happened for the second time in about three months.
Here's What We Know
The destruction of a rare target was reported by the press service of the Defence Forces of southern Ukraine. Judging by the nature of the hit, the strike was carried out by the American missile system HIMARS, using high-precision guided projectiles GMLRS with a range of up to 80 kilometres. Before this, the Russian system was detected by a drone.
The RB-636M2 Svet-KU is not the newest electronic warfare station in the Russian army's arsenal. It was adopted into service more than 10 years ago. The complex is believed to be able to detect radio emissions and determine the location of their sources.
It is currently unknown how many such electronic warfare stations have entered service with the Russian army. From 2016 to 2021, RB-636M2 Svet-KU were spotted three times on the territory of the temporarily occupied Luhansk region.
